A new networking community is coming to Leicester, connecting the city’s many freelancers and startup business owners with each other, and to the natural environment. Leicester Netwalking is hosted by a partnership of local businesses - Solvers Studio, Jamila’s Legacy CIC and Celebrate Our Similarities (COS) - working in partnership with the Canal and River Trust and De Montfort University. As a collective, we’re coordinating monthly walks alongside the city’s extensive waterways, bringing local entrepreneurs together to meet, walk and connect to people and place.

What is ‘Netwalking’?
It’s business networking with a difference! We know that the health and wellbeing of startup entrepreneurs and freelancers as individuals is equally as important as the health of their business. One rarely succeeds without the other. With that in mind, we’ll be coordinating and hosting a series of walks alongside our rivers and canals for startup businesses and freelancers to come along and meet and chat. There’ll also be plenty of opportunity for people to learn about the city’s waterways, the landmarks, and the history of the place we call home.
Each netwalk will have a starting point from which we’ll depart at a particular time, as well as various ‘rendezvous’ points along the route for those who might not wish to do the full distance. Typically, each walk will be 3.5 - 4 miles long (about 1 hr at average pace), and wherever possible we’ll select routes that can accommodate scooters, wheelchairs and pushchairs. We’ll always make it clear for each walk where stretches of the route may be inaccessible to any of the above and direct to alternative pathways where possible.
Our walks will end at a cafe or other indoor space to allow people to carry on the conversations and meet with people who were unable to meet us for the walk itself.
Why join a netwalk?
Breaking free from the usual function rooms, hotels and conference centres, this is for people to connect not only with like-minded people, but to connect with nature and all the benefits that brings.
Walking through ‘blue spaces’ gives us real positive gains to our mental health (calming and de-stressing) and physical wellbeing (gentle, low-impact exercise). Building relationships with other business owners can also help to reduce the very real risk of isolation that exists among freelance and micro-and-small business owners.
So why not come along and join a new community of Netwalkers in Leicester? Our first walk is being planned for June 2022. Follow us on social media for announcements about the date, time and route being planned:
