Welcome to the Business Playbox Spotlight, where we take a closer look at some members of our Playbox community.
In our latest Spotlight, we welcome one of our most recent members who have joined the Business Playbox community, the wonderful Manjila Jattan. Find out more below as she shares more about her hopes for the future.
Manjila
Manjila is an amazing 58-year-old from a beautiful island near Australia, and has been living and working in the UK for over 25 years. She started out as a cashier in Lloyds Bank and gradually made her way up to becoming the branch manager. She's currently working with the Nottingham Building Society and has always had an interest in working with communities.
She joined the Business Playbox in March to find out more about creating her own business.
Why get involved?
Manjila joined the playbox because she had always wanted to start her own initiative helping struggling people develop budgeting solutions and saving plans to benefit their lives. After working for someone else for so long and as her retirement approaches, she hopes to be able to use her acquired skills and knowledge to continue to help people even when she is retired. She has been looking for guidance to making her dreams a reality and was overjoyed to learn about this program and its promise to provide continuous aid till the end.
Journey so far
So far, she's realised it won't be easy to do something useful, even if she is passionate about it! She's learnt the importance of planning and having goals, structure and guidance when trying to start a business. She's been enjoying the face-to-face sessions, and has already learnt the importance of networking both online and offline. Manjila has learnt how to develop a business plan and now is aware of the importance of using some social media platforms, and has started to work with her coach and looks forward to continuing to develop along the process.
The Future
Manjila hopes that at the end of her time in the playbox, she would have learnt how to start and run her own business in her attempt to be self-employed soon. She wants anyone who wants to join the playbox workshop to think hard about their ideas and goals before joining. She wants others to know that even though it would not be easy, they would have guidance throughout and would not be left on the wayside.
Manjila's top tip: "as the world changes, people must also learn to modify and change the way they do things as well to keep up."
